Eagle Scout Dr. Silverstone is the Den Leader of Virginia Beach's first female Cub Scout Den.  He is also a merit badge counselor for veterinary and animal care awards.  Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach has also hosted beekeeping demonstrations for local Girl Scout Troop.

National Monument for Military Working Dog Teams 

President Barack Obama signed legislation into public law authorizing the John Burnam Monument Foundation, Inc. (JBMF, Inc.) to build and maintain a national monument to honor the service and sacrifice pf the United States Armed Forces Military Working Dog Teams that served from World War II to the present wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is the first time in U.S. military history that an animal (dog) has been elevated to national monument status by congressional law.
